Emma's Butterfly Garden

 DEBRA Ireland has opened a new butterfly garden in Killashee House, Naas, Co. Kildare.

This stunning creation of a butterfly garden was the brainchild of Emma Fogarty, Patient Ambassador with DEBRA Ireland. It was her dream to have a butterfly garden in a location where those affected by EB can go to enjoy peace and tranquility. This striking garden is complete with a fountain, butterfly houses and gazebo. This beautiful garden will be a place where all people can come to reflect and get away from the stresses they face in their everyday life. We are extremely lucky to have such an experienced and talented gardener Tony Hanlon. Tony started his journey with Killashee over 25 years ago in the 80’s as the gardener for the nuns.  Tony has been the backbone of Killashee throughout the many years it has been a successful establishment under many guises from a nunnery to a boarding school and in recent years a luxury hotel. Tony is adored by staff and guests alike for his encyclopaedic knowledge of gardens, far superior to any google search (which he’ll personally assure you himself!). Not only will he provide great tips but he is the man with the real stories behind the history of Killashee. His latest horticultural masterpiece is the recently launched “Emma’s Butterfly Garden” – watch this space for the beautiful story behind his stunning creation.

Foodie's Blog - Killashee Chicken Wings

A guest recently asked us on twitter for the recipe for the chicken wings served in Jacks. We said no, it’s a secret! But as we love surprising and rewarding our guests we thought why keep it to ourselves, why not just share the recipe with all our chicken wing lovers out there. So here it is:

Killashee Chicken Wings

Ingredients

32 Chicken Wings (from your local butcher)

25 gm Good Quality Butter

100ml Louisiana Hot Sauce

(this should be enough for 4 portions but feel free to double up the recipe for extra tasty chicken wings)

·         Melt the butter on a medium heat in a saucepan.

·         Once melted add in the Louisiana hot sauce and bring to the boil. Set this tasty mixture to the side.

·         Separately bring a large pot of water to the boil, boil your chicken wings for approximately 20minutes.

·         Cool down the chicken wings under cold running water.

·         Deep fry at 180 degrees for 4-5 minutes or until crispy (alternatively could bake in a preheated oven at 180 degrees for 10-12 minutes)

·         Gently remove excess fat with kitchen paper.

·         In a large mixing bowl toss the chicken wins with the hot sauce.

·         Serve immediately with a few celery sticks and a yummy blue cheese dressing.

Shave or wax at least 24hrs before application

CELEBRATE A VERY CHIC SUMMER AT KILDARE VILLAGE

‘Chic Summer Festival’, supported by Failte Ireland, National Tourism Development Authority, takes place from Thursday 5^th July until Sunday 29th July, will see Kildare Village transformed into a garden of delights, where visitors will enjoy a series of exciting experiences including bespoke floral couture installations, musical performances, an artisan food pop-up  and a Heritage & Genealogy trail.

Where else can you sip on floral inspired cocktails, enjoy live entertainment, Irish cuisine and indulge your retail appetite all at the same time? And to top it off there’s a very special international celebrity guest to launch proceedings … all will be revealed very soon!

Make Kildare Village your ultimate day-out destination for shopping, entertainment and culture this summer, while exploring the best the Thoroughbred County has to offer throughout the season.

Festival Highlights

To capture the essence of Chic Summer Festival, Kildare Village will showcase a unique floral couture catwalk created with some of the beautiful flowers of the season. The Floral Couture installation will be curated by international award-winning florist Joe Massie. Regarded by many as the most talented florist of his generation, Joe boasts a host of international accolades and awards, and recently became the youngest floral designer to win Gold at the 2012 Chelsea Flower Show for the fourth consecutive year. His must-see floral catwalk will be on display throughout the Festival, providing visitors with an opportunity to see “living couture” with three unique floral muses of fashionable flowers from local gardens and meadows. Joe will also host floral masterclasses during the Festival, showing how to create the perfect posy with the best of the Irish summer flowers.

Chic Summer Festival at Kildare Village will also include a series of boutique open-air summer performances, offering visitors a diverse musical experience every weekend in July. On 20^th and 21^st July members of the Irish Chamber Orchestra will delight audiences with a repertoire of summer favourites. Also, there will be live sets from fashion blogging DJ Alex Donald who will bring a cool, chic, vibe to the open-air promenades of the Village.

Expect the unexpected at this year’s Chic Summer Festival with impromptu theatrical performances including a parade of butterflies that will flutter their oversized wings throughout the Village. In addition, there will be plenty of garden-themed fun for children every weekend of the Festival. 

A must-see at the Chic Summer Festival is the ballet performance inspired by the birds of summer and choreographed by Muirne Bloomer of ’The Ballet Ruse’, one of Ireland’s original performers and choreographers. 

Every Friday, during Chic Summer Festival, visitors can join a Heritage & Genealogy Trail, where they will discover the fascinating history of Kildare town, one of the oldest towns in Ireland. Guided by a local historian from the Heritage Centre in Kildare Town, they can explore St. Brigid’s Cathedral, The Round Tower, the site of a Norman Castle and three medieval Abbeys, including the 13^thcentury Grey Abbey ruins at Kildare Village. After the trail, visitors who wish to trace their Irish ancestry can continue their journey back in time having a special consultation with the Irish Family History Foundation at Kildare Village. Newly Refurbished Deluxe Double Rooms

We are very excited to say that we are nearly finished the long awaited refurbishments of our Deluxe Double Bedrooms and we are delighted with the results. Some bedrooms have been finished in a Moroccan Style with soft browns, maroons, creams & gold shades while others are decorated with beautiful soft greens, creams & gold tones. We hope you like them as much as we do!

The 'Orangery' opens at Killashee House

As part of our on-going refurbishments & developments, we are delighted to announce the opening of our new 'Orangery' at Killashee House Hotel. The Orangery is a beautiful new conservatory area, flooded with natural day light and chandeliers and ideal for a private lunch, dinner or afternoon tea. With its own private entrance, the Orangery is also perfect as a registration area for conferences.
The Orangery marks the end of the second phase of developments at Killashee & we are excited to say that phase three is well underway including a substantial refurbishment of our bedrooms. We will have some photos of the newly refurbished bedrooms in the next few days - watch this space!
